Tutorial Tuesday Spectrum Aqua Markers with Heidi Blankenship

For Tuesday Tutorial Design Team Member, Heidi Blankenship shares with you how to use the Spectrum Aqua Markers to watercolor stamped images. For today's project I used the Spectrum Aqua Markers with CL-02138 Sweet Posies Cling Stamps from JustRite Papercraft to create a wall decor piece. I stamped the floral image on to Strathmore Watercolor paper using Jet Black StazOn ink. Please note that results vary with different watercolor papers.  I prefer using Spectrum Aquas with the Strathmore Watercolor Paper.

 

 To color the flower just do one petal at a time. Start with the darkest color at the base of the petal which is WildFlower and then I added the second color Purple.  

Next put the brush in the water and then use a paper towel to blot off the excess water. 

Start on the outer edge of the petal by just adding water and then work your way in to the color. Doing this will allow the watercolor to flow and blend in to the water. If you have too much water on the brush it will wash out the color.

If you want the color to be darker or if it does get too washed out you can always add more color.  When water coloring you need to make sure each area is dry before painting another section. So you can either more to another section or dry the area with a heat tool. If you don't do this the colors can bleed into each other. Continue to color the rest of the petals and heat setting in between to speed up the process.

To color the yellow center of the flowers I used the Sunflower yellow marker.  I used the fine tip end of the marker.  To color the dark center part of the flower I used the fine tip on the Wildflower marker.

To color the leaves and stems of the flowers I used the Moss marker.

 

It's a little harder to see on the leaves but I water colored them the same as the flowers. Add the color with the marker and then add water to the white area and blend the color out.

To add color to the background I start by adding Aquamarine close to the edge of the flowers. Then I bring in a brush with clean water and I add water first and then come into the color and blend out. 

 

 If you get too much water or color on your brush you can blot it on a paper towel.

After the Aquamarine color was blended all around the flower and dry then I added more Aquamarine, Teal, and Peacock Blue.  

For this part I am using a larger round brush. I scribbled some color from the markers on my board. Next I am adding water to the paper and adding color a little at a time to the background until I get the effect that I want. Adding the water first will allow the color to move and blend.

Once the background is done and dried I wanted to add some paint splatters. I scribbled some of the Black on my board and added water. Then I tapped my brush to add the paint splatters. I dried the paint splatters and then added some water drops to create the white drops. 

To finish my project I trimmed down the watercolor paper. To create my DIY Home Decor piece I purchased a wooden frame and a 6" x 6" canvas at Michaels. I spray painted the frame with black spray paint and I painted the canvas with a layer of white paint.  When these were both dry I glued my watercolor paper to my frame with Ranger Multi Medium Matte. After that dried I applied the Ranger Multi Medium Matte to the back of the frame and and the watercolor paper.

JustRite CHA January Release Floral Basket and Reversed Crackle Background Stamp

Welcome to day two of the JustRite Papercraft CHA January Release.  Today we are introducing two new stamp sets designed by Amy Tedder.

For the first card I am using CL-02127 Crackle Cling Background Stamp and CR-02026 Appliqué Christmas Labels One Clear Stamps. To create the gingerbread  and apron cut outs I used my Silhouette Cameo and SVG-02026 SVG Appliqué Christmas Labels One Cut File Digital Download for CR-02026 Cut File.  I am using the offset cut file.

 

I am using Rich Cocoa ink to stamp the image of the gingerbread boy and girl. Next I used Rhubarb Stalk ink to stamp the little hearts on one of the gingerbread cut outs.  I am using the same Rich Cocoa ink to stamp the image of the apron on to the cut out.  I used Spectrum Noir™ Marker DR6 to color on the apron. 

I inked the edges of the gingerbread cut outs with Vintage Photo Distress ink to add some color and interest.  This is a step you could skip if you would like.  To soften the white of the apron I inked the edges with Antique Linen Distress ink. 



To color the cheeks on the gingerbread cut outs I used Rhubarb Stalk ink and a Q-tip to apply the ink.  Q-tips work great for applying ink in small places.  For the ric rac trim or frosting on the gingerbread cut outs I used a white (PC938) Prismacolor Colored Pencil.

To create the background I used CL-02127 Crackle Cling Background Stamp with Rich Cocoa ink.  Next I stamped the sentiment using Rhubarb Stalk ink.  I used Vintage Photo Distress ink to ink the edges of the paper.  Doing this softens up the white paper and added depth.  If you don't like inked edges, this is another step that you could skip. 

For the second card I am using, CR-02144 Bokeh Time Clear Stamps, CR-02133 Extra Grand Holiday Sentiments Clear Stamps, and CL-02067 Retro Sparkle Cling Background Stamp. I inked up the background stamp using Shaded Lilac and stamped the image on to a piece of white cardstock.  Next I used Picked Raspberry Distress ink to stamp the star burst accents from the CR-02144 Bokeh Time Clear Stamps.

 

 To finish the background piece I stamped one of the sentiments from the CR-02133 Extra Grand Holiday Sentiments Clear Stamps using Picked Raspberry Distress ink.

 

To create the snowflake cut outs I used my Silhouette Cameo and SVG-02026 SVG Appliqué Christmas Labels One Cut File Digital Download for CR-02026.  I used the offset cut file. I used Tumbled Glass Distress ink to stamp the image of the snowflake.  Then I inked around the edges of each snowflake cut out. 

For the card base I am using Snow Cone cardstock and I inked around the edges with Tumbled Glass Distress ink.  Here is a look at the finished card.  I added a few sequins and 3D foam squares to the snowflakes. 

 For the third and finally card I used CL-02127 Crackle Cling Background Stamp and CR-02024 Christmas Stitched with Love Clear Stamps.

 

To create the little sprigs with berries cut outs I used my Silhouette Cameo and SVG-02024 SVG Christmas Stitched with Love Vintage Labels Seven Digital Cut File Download for CR-02024.  I used the exact cut file.

 

I used Rich Cocoa ink to stamp the image on to the cut out.  When I am using the exact cut files I have my stamp facing up, add ink and then place the cut out on top of the stamp.  Gently run over the top to get a nice coverage of ink.  To color the leafy sprig and berries I used Spectrum Noir™ Markers DG2, DG3, DR6.  Start coloring with the DG2 marker.  To color the berries (buttons) I used the DR6 marker.  To add a little bit of shading on the leafy I used the DG3 markers and then blended with the DG2 marker.

 Today we are very honored that our illustrator Amy Tedder is joining us and sharing two projects she designed with her stamp sets.  Her first card uses our  Elegant Fan Elements Clear Stamps and Vintage Fan Dies.

 Amy Tedder designed this gorgeous stationery ensemble using our SVG Elegant Fan Elements Digital Download Cut File with  SVG Elegant Fan Elements Digital Download Cut File  and our Burlap Background Cling Stamp. Amy used her Silhouette Cameo to cut the envelope and then stamped and embossed the flaps with white embossing powder . Next Amy cut an extra "flap" to use as a header on the card and then she layered the offset cut for the border to create the edge of the card. 

Here Amy showcases a similar card in a brighter color palatte using her Elegant Fan Elements Clear Stamps, Vintage Labels Nine Dies and Vintage Fan Dies.

Kazan Clark designed this stunning fan card using Amy's Vintage Fan and Sentiments Clear Stamps, Vintage Fan Dies with Spellbinders Reflective Moments.  Kazan colored with Copic Markers and then accented her images to give them more depth using Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils.

Tutorial Tuesday DIY Stamped Burlap Gift Bag designed by Heidi Blankenship

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday, today JustRite designer Heidi Blankenship shares how to create a DIY Burlap Gift Bag using JustRite Stamps, StazOn ink, and Spectrum Noir markers. This is a quick and easy project to create and it will be a perfect presentation for gift giving.

Here is the project that I will be making today.  For those of you who do not have a fast enough internet connection to watch the video you can see my step shots and instructions below.

Instructions:

To create my sunflower ribbon for the burlap tote I used CR_02097 Stitched Sunflowers Vintage Labels Eight Clear Stamps, StazOn Saddle Brown  ink,  Spectrum Noir Markers™ -CT2, CT4, GB3, GB6, CG2, TN6, EB7 and May Arts 2.5" Cotton Blend Vintage Print -Plain. To fray the ends of the ribbon pull off a few strings on each end. 

Randomly stamp the large sunflower, small sunflower and leaf across the entier piece of ribbon using StazOn Saddle Brown ink. Here you can see the entire piece of ribbon after all the images were stamped.  This is the first look--if you want something very natural looking you could stop here.

For the second look--ink the edges and blank spaces on the ribbon.  Doing this will give the ribbon a aged and richer look.  If you don't want to do any coloring you would stop here.

 

Now for the third and final look--adding color using Spectrum Noir markers.  When coloring the images try not to color up to the inside lines so the color doesn't blend with the ink.  When coloring the ribbon I am doing it very lightly and the colors just blend in to the ribbon.  This is quick and easy basic coloring and would be great even for someone who is new to alcohol markers.  Here is the ribbon once the entier piece was stamped, inked and colored.  I love how this turned out!  It is so quick and easy to customized your stamped ribbon and it will look like printed ribbon.  :)

For the next part of my project  I will be stamping on the cut shapes.  I used SVG-02097 SVG Stitched Sunflowers Vintage Labels Eight Cut File Download for CR-02097 and the Silhouette Cameo to cut the shapes.  

I used the exact cut file to cut these shapes and I find it a lot easier to stamp them if I have the stamp facing up and then place the SVG cut file on top of the inked stamp. 

 TIP:  Before inking the stamp, take the cut image and line it up on the stamp and then set it to the side.Then ink your stamp. It is a lot easier to pick it up and place on the stamp the SVG once you have it lined up instead of inking the stamp and then holding the cut image above and moving it around to line up. 

Rub over the back of the paper and carefully lift it up. 

To color the images I used Spectrum Noir markers.  All of the markers are in the supply list at the end of this post.   

 

These cut shapes are going to be added to the tag.  To create the tag I used  JustRite Die-  JB-02087 Vintage Labels Eight Dies.  For the larger piece I used brown cardstock and for the smaller piece I used kraft.  I stamped the frame image and sentiment from the C CR_02097 Stitched Sunflowers Vintage Labels Eight Clear Stamps on to the piece of kraft.  I adhered all of the pieces together using E-Z Runner and 3D Foam Squares.

Here is a look at the finsihed burlap bag.  Like I said this is a wine bag but you could actually use it for anything you would like.  This will make a beautiful altered bag for gift giving.  

With just a few supplies the burlap bags are very inexpensive and quick and easy to alter.   I purchased a set of the burlap bags at Walmart in the craft department and they were $3.47 for the two bags.
