Here is another view of today's card.
Using the DIE-02213 Peonies and Mason Jar Dies and Strathmore Mixed Media Paper die cut the jar. Cut a small piece of Post It note paper to cover up the words on the mason jar image from JustRite Peonies Clear Stamps. Then ink up the mason jar stamp using StazOn Jet Black ink. Use a tweezers to remove the piece of paper. Carefully line up and place the die cut on top of the stamp. Place a piece of scratch paper on top and rub over the top to transfer the ink to the die cut. Then carefully remove die cut.
Next using the flower stamps ink up only the stems and stamp three times on top of the mason jar die cut. To color the water in the jar I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens Cobalt Blue and Light Gray. First I applied water to the paper in the areas I want to add color. Doing this will help the colors to flow and blend. I am using a Round #8 brush to watercolor. Add water to the color to really blend it out and get a very light blue color. I used a little of the gray around the edges. Apply color until you achieve the desired look.
Use a heat tool to dry the paper in between the layers of color. After looking at the die cut I decided I wanted to add a little more of the blue color. The stems were colored with a very watered down Pale Green.
Using both of the larger flower dies and the mixed media paper die cut three of the flower stamps and then use StazOn Jet Black ink to stamp the images on the die cuts.
On the first flower I wanted to have very pale pink petals so I added water to one petal at a time and then added the color and blended out with more water. I colored the entire flower using just the Pale Pink pen. When you watercolor do only one area at a time--like the petals on the flower. Doing this will help to prevent the colors from bleeding in to other areas. You can use a heat tool to speed up the drying time.
I wanted the second flower to be more vibrant so I used two colors-- Light Pink and Pink. This time I didn't add any water to start. I colored directly on to the paper and then and then blended with the water. Doing this will give you darker color tones. I colored in the petal first with Light Pink and then added water to blend. I added the Pink to the areas I wanted to be darker and then added water to blend.
Here you can see the difference in the color of the two flowers.
The third flower is going to be in the background so I didn't want to take the time to color the whole flower. I placed the other two flowers on top and then lightly traced around the two flowers so I would now where I needed to add color.
I used the same technique to color the leaves as I did the flowers. I added water first for the lighter colors and then blended with water and for the darker colors I colored directly on the paper and then blended with water. I used Pale Green and Light Green for the leaves. Here I have all three of the flowers done and you can see the difference in the colors.
Next I cut off the stems on all of the flowers.
Then I arranged the mason jar and flower on top of a piece of mixed media paper. I used scor-tape and foam squares to adhere all of the pieces.
For the background I did a simple watercolor wash. First I applied water to the paper and then I started to drop in color. Keep adding color and blending out with water. For the background I used Yellow, Bright Yellow, and Orange.
I used a heat tool to speed up the drying time in between layers of color. Adding the layers of color adds depth and interest to the paper.
To finish the card I added the watercolor piece to an A2 top folding card and adding some clear sequins. Thanks so much for joining me today! :) Heidi
