Tutorial Tuesday Spectrum Noir Markers and Pencil Tutorial by Heidi Blankenship

Here is a step by step tutorial too.  

I used the CL-02136 Morning Glory stamp for the card.  Stamp the morning glory image using Rich Cocoa ink on to white cardstock.  I used the Spectrum Noir markers to start coloring the image.  I started with the flowers using LV1, LV2, PL5, and the Blender.  

I started with the lightest color and worked my way to the darkest.  I applied the blender to the petal in the areas I want to stay the lightest and then I start to add some color. Next I added the medium purple.  Then add the darkest color right around the edges.  Now work back with the colors-darkest to lightest blending as you go. 

I colored the leaves the same way I did for the flowers going from lightest to the darkest color and then back again and blending the colors.

This is what my project looked like before I started adding the colored pencils.

Next I was able to add more depth to my image by adding details with my Spectrum Noir Colored pencils.  I add more detail and darkened and crisped up the edges of the stamped image. I used colored pencils from the Primary Pencil Set and the Essentials Pencil Set.  For the flowers I used these Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils - Purples-078, 080, 082. 

For the leaves I added shading with these Spectrum Noir Pencils - Greens-056, 047, 058.

To blend the colored pencils I used a container with a sponge and odorless mineral spirits and blender stumps.  (Watch the video to see how I use the mineral spirits in a container with a sponge with the blender stumps).

To add more dimension to my image I also used the blender and IB1 marker to create a very light blue background around the Morning Glories. 

Then I used these Spectrum Noir pencils to add some shading and blend out the blue Grays-112, 117, and Blue-065.  To complete my card I used Spellbinders Paper Arts S4-462 Labels Thirty-Nine, and  S4-464 Labels Thirty-Nine Decorative Elements.

 Here is a closeup of Heidi's Card for today's tutorial.

 To create a mask I stamp the image onto printer paper and then onto your card.

Next I fussy cut the image of the lilac that was stamped on to the printer paper.  This does not need to be a perfectly cut image.  In fact you will get better results if you cut just inside of the line of the stamped image.  I also used a craft knife to cut out some of the smaller areas by the leaves.

Next I applied the 2 way glue to the back of the fussy cut image.  Let the glue dry just until it is slightly tacky and then place on top of stamped image on cardstock.  Covering up the image with protect it and keep it free from ink when stamping on top of it--masking the image.

I used Memento London Fog to ink on the background stamp.  After I stamped the background and removed the mask then I trimmed the paper.

 

To color the image I used Spectrum Noir markers and all of the colors are listed in the supply list below.

I used all of the inks in the suppy list below to add some color, shading and depth to the background image.  I use a cotton ball to apply the inks in a circular motion for a nice soft effect. First,I added some London Fog ink around the edges of the lilacs for some shading.  Next I started adding the different shades of purple starting with the lightest color and going to the darkest color.  To finish up the inking around the edges I used Gray Flannel ink.

JustRite CHA January Release Floral Basket and Reversed Crackle Background Stamp
