Welcome to Part III of Heidi Blankenship's Watercolor Tutorial Series. Today we are showcasing new Bokeh Themed Stamps from our October Release called Bokeh Time Clear Stamps (which is a 48 piece set) and Bokeh Polka Cling Background Stamp designed by Amy Tedder. These new stamps will help you create cards using the Bokeh Technique in a matter of minutes.
Before we get started with the Tutorial, we need to announce the winner of last week's Tutorial Tuesday Giveaway. Congratulations to Blue Rose who has just won a $20.00 gift card to the JustRite Website.
Blue Rose -please email me at [email protected] with your email information so that I can send you your gift card. Please use Tutorial Tuesday Winner as the subject of your email.
Today I will be using two of the blue watercolor paints from this Gansai Tambi 36 Colours Set. I am loving these watercolors! They are so vibrant. It is so nice that the watercolors are each in their own little pots so you can take out just the colors you need.
Today I am using two new October Release Sets that Amy Tedder designed for the Bokeh Technique and we are releasing both sets today on the JustRite Website - Bokeh Time Clear Stamps, Bokeh Polka Cling Background Stamp. For today's watercolor technique I will also be using Coarse Kosher Salt with the watercolor paints. (Gansai Tambi -#64 Blue, #63 Persian Blue).

Here is a look at the four backgrounds I created with watercolors using today's watercolor techniques.
And a look at the 4 cards once they were completed.
FIRST TECHNIQUE
Mist the watercolor paper with water. Then add more water with a large brush. You don't have to mist with water I just like to do this for a quick and easy way to get a good coverage of water on the paper. Start adding the watercolor. The wetter the paper is the more the paint will feather out. Add the second blue color.
I am using -#64 Blue, #63 Persian Blue.
I just added more paint and water until the colors were blended the way I wanted them.
STAMPING ON THE FIRST TECHNIQUE BACKGROUND
Start with the watercolor background piece and the three larger circles in the stamp set and randomly start stamping the background. Stamp off on a piece of scrap paper first and then stamp the watercolor paper. I am using Mix'd Media Inx Jasmine. Stamp a few times before reinking the stamp.
Doing this will give you different shades of the color, create layers and add dimension. Then I used 3 of the smaller circles in the stamp set. To make this stand out I did not stamp off on scratch paper. Next I stamped the little star sparkle stamp randomly on the background. Then I added Sequins a Spellbinders Shoots Die and a Sentiment from Bokeh Time Clear Stamps.
Remember that I am stamping on watercolor paper and because to the texture of the paper you won't get a clean crisp circular image -- but the fuzziness is perfect for the Bokeh Technique.
For my second watercolor technique with salt, created a second watercolor background paper with the same paints. While the paper and paint were still wet I added the salt. Lightly mist the paper and salt with a little more water.
The salt gives the paper a cool star burst or snowflake effect.
Stamping on the second background technique (the one with salt). I stamped the Bokeh Polka Cling Background Stamp using Mix'd Media Inx Jasmine. Next I randomly stamped the star sparkle stamps from the Bokeh Time Clear Stamp Set on the background. On the background of this card I am using three of those stamps.
Here is my finished card....
For the background of this card I added more water to the salt so I would get more feathering from the salt. To complete this card I used the star stamps and the outline circles.
For my third water color technique, I created this background paper using the little salt granules I saved from the first technique.
(Love how I can create a second soft background from the leftover watercolor paint on the salt granules).
Once the paper with the salt granules was dry I rubbed the salt off. This is a very soft background with hints of color.
