This Friday's Challenge is a Summer Recipe Swap! You will need to somehow use your JustRite stamps to share your favorite Summertime (or any fun time) recipe with everyone. Some examples might include a recipe card of your favorite Summer recipe, embellished with JustRite stamps (as I'm sharing below), a canned Summertime recipe/vegetable/fruit, etc. with perhaps a JustRite label on it, or maybe even a bag topper containing your favorite Summertime food, accented with JustRite stamps!
One requirement of this challenge is to share the actual recipe with your blog or gallery readers, so they can find some new recipes! Remember, you have the weekend and until next Thursday morning to make your challenge project and even if you choose not to play along, we hope you'll keep checking all the project thumbnail links below throughout the week, to find some new recipes!
This week's challenge is sponsored by Spellbinders (prizes are shown below) and as an added bonus, several of the Spellbinders design team members and also some of JustRite's designers already have some projects ready to link up for your enjoyment! (Spellbinders and JustRite designers are, of course, not eligible for prizes). So we hope you'll check back throughout the morning and day, to see those amazing projects and recipes!
Also be sure to check the Spellbinders blog tomorrow (Saturday) and Tuesday, when they will be sharing special JustRite/Spellbinders recipe projects!
Here is one of my family's favorite dessert (or sometimes breakfast!) cake recipes, made with a year-round available favorite fruit -- apples! The family recipe is from my sweet friend (and former JustRite design team member), Taylor Van Bruggen:
My 4" x 6" recipe card uses JustRite's Recipe Borders & Centers set and is included in our 2010 JustRite Idea Book. I stamped the "Family Favorite Recipes" demi-border with brown ink and "Cakes" separately with red ink. The center image (accented with an apple cut out of the October Afternoon patterned paper) was die cut separately, layered onto a red die cut mat, and popped up over the border layer. All cuts were made with Spellbinders Classic Circle Nestabilities:
The final layer to this recipe madallian is an olive Classic Scalloped Circle Nestabilities die cut. Here's the copy and paste recipe for you:
Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce – Taylor Van Bruggen
Cake Ingredients
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
2 eggs
6 apples; chopped
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. soda
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1/2 cup margarine; softened
Cake Instructions: Cream sugar and margarine. Add eggs. Mix dry ingredients together and fold into sugar mixture. Add chopped apples. Put in 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean (may need up to 50 minutes and should be nicely browned).
Caramel Sauce Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup whipping (heavy) cream
Caramel Sauce Instructions: Combine butter and sugar in saucepan. Melt over medium heat. Add heavy cream and stir. Boil until creamy consistency. Serve warm over cake.
This week's challenge winner will receive these Spellbinders Nestabilities dies (Classic Scalloped Rectangles-Sm & Sm Classic Inverted Scalloped Circles):
Honorable Mention winners will receive these Impressabilities templates (Flourish & Circles):
Many thanks once again to Spellbinders for their generous sponsorship AND project participation this week!
CHALLENGE RULES:
You will need to use JustRite products for your project and upload it to an online blog, gallery or photo hosting website. (Please see our blog post HERE for important information about our gallery on Flickr, how to upload to it, and another opportunity to win some JustRite products!).
You will then need to link to your project back here on our blog post, using the linking system on this challenge post. Please make certain your link is directly to your project, not just your general blog home page or overall photo gallery, so we can find it easily. (Links that are spam, commercial in content, or are not linked properly/directly to your project will be deleted). If you choose to upload your project to www.Splitcoaststampers.com OR our Flickr gallery, please use the weekly challenge code (example: JRC_022 <== that's an underscore between the letters and numbers) in the keyword section of the Splitcoast project upload page or the Tag section of the Flickr gallery.
You will have until next Thursday, June 17th at 9am Central to make your project and enter a link to it below. Then the winners will be chosen and announced a little later that day here on the JustRite Inspiration Blog. By entering our challenges, you grant JustRite Stampers permission to use your artwork here on our blog as well as our company website gallery (with designer credit given and blog or gallery linked) or any possible advertising.
We can't wait to see all the fabulous Summertime recipes you have to share! We think you'll enjoy this challenge so much, that we have several seasonal recipe swaps planned for the future!
