Welcome to a new feature here at JustRite Inspiration ... Tuesday Tutorials! We'll be answering some of your most frequently asked questions about JustRite stamps and showing you some educational tutorials along the way.
Our first tutorial installment will show you how to trim and properly use your JustRite stamps, to avoid unwanted ink marks on your final project. Have you ever ended up with a stamped image looking like this:
If you're not careful when inking the stamp, ink can also get on the edges of the block (when not using a border, like I did here) and on the extra rubber around the image. Simple solution? Trim your JustRite stamps just like you might any other unmounted stamps:
As long as you leave enough grooves on the back of the image so it will fit onto the grooves of the block, you'll be fine!
See how much cleaner the second image stamped? Just be sure when inking the stamp, to keep your ink pad level and don't rock it (if inking the stamp when it's sitting face up like in the photo above) or keep your stamp/block level when tapping it onto your ink pad -- try not to rock your stamp/block, to avoid getting unwanted ink on the edges of the block.
Another solution: After you have inked the center image (and perhaps only want to stamp the center image, not the border), quickly place the border onto the block (uninked), huff on the inked center image to help rewet it, and then stamp. Having the border around the perimeter of the block (even uninked) will help stop the block/image from rocking, to stay flat and stamp evenly:
For my sample card, I used 15-point Times New Roman Uppercase lettering to spell out my sentiment on the top and bottom of the 2" Square Wood Block:
And my finished sample -- a Father's Day card for my girls to give their Dad, which uses this week's CPS #166 sketch that JustRite is sponsoring:
I made the chipboard arrow myself, covered it with coordinating paper and stamped #1 DAD on it with Times New Roman 50-point font. The lion head was stamped onto Neenah Natural White cardstock, colored with Copic markers (listed below) and popped up on foam tape over the first lion image that was stamped with the sentiment:
The lion image was die cut with Spellbinders Classic Square Nestabilities and then layered onto a mat cut with Labels Three Nestabilities.
We hope this article will help you achieve a perfectly inked JustRite image! Please let us know (by commenting on this post) if there are other questions or tutorials about JustRite's stamps you would like to see answered and we'll try our best to comply!
Be sure to check back tomorrow, when we'll unveil the prize package you could win by entering this week's CPS sketch JustRite is sponsoring ... and I'll have another sample for you!
