We had so much information to share with you yesterday, that we thought we'd save a giveaway for today! Read on down below for that info.
Design team member, Sharon Harnist, has a Copic coloring tutorial for you today. We are happy to announce that Sharon has come on board to co-author the JustRite blog and projects! She's been busy behind the scenes, helping to build the new JustRite blog home here on Typepad. Sharon served on Splitcoaststampers.com's design team in 2006; she is on Copic's blogging design team and is a Copic Regional Certification Instructor. She also served on Spellbinders' 2008 design team and has been on our JustRite design team since its inception in 2008. With these distinct qualities and previous affiliations, we know you are going to love her projects! Please join us in welcoming Sharon!

Isn't this new botanical set beautiful?!! It's a colorer's dream, so let's get started (you can click on any of the photos for a larger view)! You'll need 3 or 4 shades of the same color. Keep in mind you can use any color combination you'd like; the principals are still the same:
1-Base coat the poppies with the lightest shade of the 3 or 4 coordinating Copic markers you've chosen; here, I used R22.
2-With the Colorless Blender, take out some of the color in the centers of the poppies and in a few high spots that would naturally be a little lighter, due to sunlight hitting those spots.
3-With your next darker color (R24), define the petals where they meet each other and would naturally be darker in those lower spots. Also add definition with this color to the areas the artist has included as shading.
4-With your next darkest color (R29), add more saturation of color to the very lowest/deepest parts of the flowers.
5-With the highlight color I've chosen (YR31), go back and fill in the centers of the poppies and highlight areas we took out in step 2.
6-Now go back with the lightest color you started with (R22) and blend. See the difference blending makes on the poppy on the left, vs. the one on the right? Amazing, right?!! This is what makes alcohol-based Copic markers so special -- no muddying of the colors, just nicely variagated shades of color!
7-Now you can go back and add in a little more darker shading with either the darkest marker you've already used (R29), or add an even deeper shade (R59).
8-Using G20, G24 & G28, color the leaves and stems in the same manner.
9-The final step is to add W5 to the center of the open poppy and highlight it with Black Copic Spica Glitter Pen.
The right photo above shows all the Copic markers used for this image. W1 was used to shadow around the flower images. The image was cut with Spellbinders Petite Scalloped Circle Nestabilities Small die 3 and Antique Linen Distress Ink was sponged on the edges.
The poppies were popped up on foam tape and adhered to Spellbinders Eylet Pendant die cut, also sponged with distress ink. The card front is 4.25" square but has a little twist:
It's an easel card that opens and stands upto reveal the interior (the button, or a brad, holds it open)! You can find the instructions HERE. (I modified the template, making it slightly larger, and started with a piece of 8.50" x 4.25" cardstock).
I stamped JustRite's Loving Thoughts sentiment with black and red Memento ink onto cream cardstock and punched it out with a 1.25" circle punch. The center fits perfectly onto the smaller Eyelet Pendant die cut in this set (cut from black cardstock and highlighted with white gel pen). Here's a view from the top, so you can see the inside of the card:
We thought you might like to know what types of the flowers are in this set, so here they are (you can click on the image for a larger view):
Here's a little more inspiration with Plant A Little Love from our design team:
