Day Five with Barb Schram - You're a Hoot

It's Day 5 with Barb Schram. Today Barb has designed these adorable Owl Valentine's!! With a complete tutorial....Thanks Barb. We have so enjoyed all the fabulous projects that Barb has shared with us this week and I hope everyone will take the time to drop Barb a comment on this post thanking her for the breathe of fresh air she has brought to these rather chilly January Days. Thanks Again Barb!! OWL BE YOUR VALENTINE OWL bet all your Valentines will love this special treat! It’s another sweet idea, complete with candy! You can change up the sentiments and candies for any special day or holiday! And, you know that is what I LOVE about JustRite, the capability to personalize and accommodate all your stamping needs! Let’s get started with the details! I found a bag of Valentine sour ball candies when I was visiting Michaels! I could get three cello bags from the one purchased bag to make a nice treat, not too much but just enough! After filling cello bag, I folded down top twice and stapled to hold closed. This provided a sturdy edge to attach inside the topper after in was scored and folded. My main topper piece measures 3 x 5”. I centered one end of the topper into a Martha Stewart border punch and punched one end and only once with this punch. Taking scissors, I snipped the cardstock from the punched out space to the edge of the side. Then I corner rounded the corners with the punch shown in photo. Next, I scored the topper at 2”and punched out a scalloped circle for each owl. To create the ears, a half inch circle punch was used. Follow photo for placement of punch. Do this on each side of bag topper. Use the crop a dile to punch small holes into white cardstock. Taking a ¾”circle punch, place punched hole in center and punch out ¾” circle to create a little white ring. Make two of these for each owl. Take the one inch circle punch for three grey circles per owl. Cut one in half for eyelids. On the straight edge of each half, use a dauber or sponge to shade, and then make tiny cuts with scissors to create a fringe. Cut a punched white circle into sixths, using one sixth for each owl’s beak. In the middle of the gray circle, use a black marker to create a large dot. This is what will show through when you place the white ring on the grey circle. Affix to topper; beak, gray circles, white rings, then pop up the eyelids with foam dots. I chose to give each owl an earring! After deciding what I wanted each earring to say, I got out my Brayton 25pt font and created my words. A punch on the fold of the topper and a punch in the sentiment edge provide the placement for a jump ring or a link to hang the sentiment earring! The topper is now complete and can be taped onto the cello bag. I used tacky redline double sided tape for this. I also chose to create a base for each Owl, so it could sit up for presentation. The base measurements will be dependent on how much and what kind of candy you place in bag…After you have the bag filled, measure out the cardstock and score each side to the height you want, fold up and tape.

Using my Brayon 25pt. font again, I created a Happy Valentine’s Day banner for each base! I think this really finishes off the presentation nicely! I love candy treats, and this particular project is one of my favorites…each owl has its own little personality! Just simply the different colors of papers, placement of the eyes, and that cute white beak give each one their own individual look! Today JustRite Team is off to CHA .... we hope that we will have a few spare moments during next week to share with you photos from the show. The show begins on Sunday.

A LIFESAVER THANK-YOU! Some of my favorite papercrafting projects are creations that develop around candy or food of some sort! I love the opportunity to play on the name of a product or play on the letter sounds of words. So, today I thought I would show you a sweet idea, one that is easy enough to keep on hand, and, well, just might be a lifesaver when you need a Thank You card in a hurry.

Using my 50pt Brayton font, I stamped three sets of the letters: U, R, and A. The next step was to punch all the letters out with my ¾’ circle punch. Now my letters are set to be adhered to my cards when needed! All cards have the same basic layout, with variation in the placement of the letters and lifesavers. The cards are 41/4” x 51/2’ in size. Placed atop the patterned 4” x 4” papers are scrap cardstock bands of different sizes. This particular card uses SU cardstock, K & Co. Berry Sweet DP along with scraps of white and red. The flowers are from Making Memories and twill ribbon is from PTI. After all pieces are adhered to the card, I used a 11/4” circle punch to create a hole for a lifesaver to peek through and then attached my lifesaver to the inside of card so I could position it just right! I decided to place my letters, U, R, A, in the inside for this card. Have you guessed the play on letters and words yet? How simple is “U R A Lifesaver” for a special thank you card? The beginning steps of creating this card is the same as the card above. The main differences is; punched letters are on card front, added button on flower, no ribbon wrapping card front, and adhesive pearls on right hand side of cardstock band. I love the sparkle to this paper! I also placed the letters on this card front. And wrapped the satin ribbon around card front and tied it off as the flower center. Take a peek at the photo below to see how simple it is to accomplish this! When I want to incorporate ribbon into my flower embellishment, I simply punch two holes in the center. Just like a two hole button. I bring up both ribbon ends through the holes and tie the ribbon, snug enough to hold, but not too tight to bend the cardstock! I love this look and have been using it often lately! I add a glue dot under the flower to hold in place. I can think of several uses for lifesaver candies! How about a lifeguard card? Place several lifesaver candies in a small cello bag with tag attached. Of course, with a JUSTRITE tag! These are adorable in a matchbook style favor too! I hope you let your imagination see the possibilities, even if it is as simple as a lifesaver candy! Stamps: JustRite Brayton font, 1 5/8” Round Stamper Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black Paper: SU and Papertreyink cardstock, PTI Raspberry Fizz patterned paper, K & Company Berry Sweet Designer Paper. Accessories: Papertreyink ribbons, MM felt and paper flowers, Dill heart button, foam adhesive flower, adhesive pearls, 1 ¼” and ¾”circle punches, Lifesaver candies, Crop a Dile, glue dots

2009 CHA Winter Sneak Peek Day-Demi Phrases

Tonight we are previewing our newest stamp configuration, we call it Celebration Demi Phrases.

When our design team played with the first 2" stamper and realized just how much you could actually write using our new 15 point border we decided to create half borders. We designed 15 half borders to get your creative juices flowing. Now we challenge you to have fun with our phrases and to finish the sentiment.

Tonight's project is the 4th Make-it Take-it we will be teaching at CHA. Designed using the Demi Phrase "I love you because...." For this card we finished the sentiment by writing "because you make me smile" Since Valentine's Day is just around the corner we liked to know how you would finish this demi phrase- I love you because.....

Day Three with Barb Schram -Forever Friends

Today Barb has given ordinary magnetic photo pockets a JustRite Makeover. Barb we love how you used our stamps and font to alter these photos. Perfect ideas for gifts or scrapbook pages. Remember we told you after seeing how talented Barb is you will be subscribing to her blog, that is if you haven't already. FOREVER FRIENDS While at Hobby Lobby this past fall, I eyed these magnetic photo pockets. At that time, our youngest daughter had just given her sister a baby shower. I thought a few pictures from the shower would fit perfectly into the pockets and I would have them all set for Christmas! Well, the holidays have come and gone and I decided it was finally time to work on this idea and get the job done! I especially love the photo they snapped themselves! So, onto plan B, I plan to gift these for Valentine’s Day! This particular package has three 3½” x 5” pockets, they are reusable with the photo sliding in or out from both sides. I chose horizontal pictures, but vertical pictures work just as well. The entire back is magnetic. I always wonder how strong magnets are on various products, and am reluctant to purchase them because they might not hold. But I took a chance and have to say this creates a strong magnetic bond, even with the added embellishments. That’s a good thing! I used two separate approaches for the stamping. Choosing to create my own sentiment, Forever Friends on one of the pockets I got out my Brayton 25pt. and 50pt fonts, and the Harmony 1 3/8” x 3 ½” rectangular stamper. Memento Tuxedo black ink was used. For the second pocket, utilizing my Special Occasion Monogram Stamper Kit, I stamped the center and ring in two separate colors, cutting my CHERISH saying from the red center, while punching the ring with round circle punches. All paper edging was slightly rubbed with a inked dauber. PTI Men of Life patterned paper inspired the colors for the pocket embellishments. I picked up the red and blue colors for the CHERISH pocket. After stamping and cutting my red sentiment, punching the outer blue stamped ring with my 13/4” and 13/8” circle punches, I was ready to attach them atop my piece of patterned paper. I added a small piece of matching twill ribbon with a tiny safety pin…I thought this was perfect since the photo is from the baby shower! An adhesive gem to dot the letter I and voila! One of my favorite things to do is using various sized fonts and changing up the letters of words I am spelling. This is exactly what I did for the words: FOREVER FRIENDS. The first letter of the words uses the JustRite Brayton font, 50pt and the remaining letters utilize 25pt.font. Another piece of twill ribbon, this time with a mini paper clip adds some interest, as does the rain dot heart! Photos make perfect gifts. I think these simple photo pockets will pull on my daughter’s heartstrings capturing cherished memories between forever friends! Day Two with Barb Schram- Just A Note

When Barb got her Pre-inked basket for being a finalists in the JustRite Stampin' Champion Contest she fell in love with our pre-inked words and 2x Stampers. So it didn't surprise us when she decided to combine our Harmony Oval I Stamper border with a 2X Stamper. And you can buy all our pre-inked words and 2x Stampers in the dollar deals section of our website - for just $1.00 each!! What a deal complete with a little inspiration from Barb. So let's get to Barb's instructions for how to make this beautiful project.

JUST A NOTE Ten note cards and envelopes fit nicely in this clear box for a wonderful presentation! All set and ready for gift giving! My husband will gift this set to his secretary. Since most employees at his office are men, I made five notes with what would be a more suitable male color, dark green, and an orchid color that is definitely more feminine.

I started out by cutting my base colored cardstock, SU orchid opulence and PTI ripe avocado. Each 8 ½” x 11” sheet is cut into four 4 ¼” x 5 ½” pieces. The white PTI cardstock is cut into 4” x 5 ¼ pieces. For stamping, I used two JustRite products, the Harmony Classic 1 3/8” x 2 1/8” Oval Stamper with a ring border only. What I love about the ring border I chose is you can color the image or leave it as is…either way looks fantastic. I felt like coloring, so I decided to use my Copic markers, V15 and G99 in this set. For the sentiment I utilized a JustRite self inked stamper, Just a Note. This was easy, easy and a crisp image every time! Check out the SALE going on right now at the JustRite store! This self inked stamper is ONLY one dollar! YES, you read it right! A JustRite Deal! The belly band is 1” in width with a strip of patterned paper to pick up the orchid color! I layered three flowers, punched two holes with my Crop a Dile so I could easily thread the ribbon and tie it off for the flower center. I couldn’t leave without showing you this additional note, card where I was experimenting with several colors of Copics. I LOVE how this turned out, so colorful and like a stain glass effect of sorts. I definitely will be making more of these! I attached this note to Papertreyink Raspberry Fizz cardstock. I hope this inspires you to create a few note cards! Whether it will be a set for you, friends, family, or coworkers, it will for sure be a perfect, Just Right gift! Have a great day! Day One with Barb Schram -Time Capsule

We have so much to share with you this week that we will be posting twice a day. One post will be Barb's Inspiration from our current collection and one will be a CHA Sneak Peek. So don't forget to keep scrolling so you don't miss a JustRite Minute!! Today Barb has a terrific project for us. What a fun family project. This week is full of tons of history making events. How fun would it be to create this Terrific 2009 Time Capsule with your kids. Recording the Headlines of the year, the price of gas, milk and bread..etc. This is also an amazing gift for a new mom...as Always Barb - we love how you think outside of the box or in this case how you created a fun inside the box project!! MEMORY CAPSULE Treasuring the memories, or in this case, canning the memories! Our daughter is due with her first child, our first grandchild in a couple weeks! His name is Kaylub and I created this special memory capsule for him with his Mom in mind. The 6" in height and 3" in diameter can is covered with animal paper by Cosmo Cricket, which is perfect because Kaylub’s nursery is full of animal friends! Lid - I lined the lid top with the flip side of my Cosmo paper, to match the top and bottom outer edging of the can. My Circle Stamper II, complete with star designer border and “enjoy” center was used to stamp once with red and once with yellow ink onto cream cardstock. I die cut, embossed, and popped the outer circle, added two round punched layers with the yellow circle popped with foam tape. Name - 50pt. Times New Roman font spells Kaylub, which is attached on top of the word enjoy. Hemp is knotted with ends taped under outer stamped circle. All circle edges are shaded with inked dauber. Now, I don’t know about you…but I think I will be hard pressed to find anything printed with the name Kaylub on it! And I certainly don’t want to spend my time searching and searching! So as long as I have my JustRite fonts and stampers, I’m good to go! Kaylub will have all the personalized items he needs! LOL! That is just another plus of the JustRite fonts; you can create ANY words you need! Inside - Bookmark style paper strips, 1 ½ x 5” will be used to jot down simple items such as: a favorite book, toy, the headline news of the day, etc. And, just as important, adding the DATE to the bottom of each paper strip. So often when my girls were little, I failed to do this, thinking I would always remember and jot down that special memory and date later. The word DATE is 25pt Times New Roman, stamped with Adirondack espresso ink. To get the new Mom started, I computer generated some starting point ideas onto crème cardstock, cut, and glued onto memory paper strips. Match boxes – What terrific little holders that easily fit inside the memory capsule! I used every inch of the Cosmo paper and covered the outer slider, and box ends. The matching adhesive die cuts make these adorable, simple, and oh, so quick. Again, stamping in 25pt. Times New Roman font onto cream cardstock, I created a purpose for each box. There is a Tooth Fairy, a Treasure, and a First Haircut box so far. The stamped cardstock lines the inside bottom slider. There is plenty of room to add more matching boxes as well as more memory paper strips. I hope our daughter and Kaylub enjoy their Memory Capsule! Created with love: a collection of precious moments and times, handwritten on memory paper strips, easily accessible, all sitting on his nursery bookcase! It doesn’t get much better than that! CHA Sneak Peek- Just a Little Caffeine

Tonight we are revealing a new new size Wooden Stamper - a 2" round. You are gonna love everything that you can do with this wooden stamper. It is our most versatile design ever!! 1. the Rim is designed to fit our new 15 point font as well as our existing 6 pt font.(small letter font) 2. The rubber grid of this new stamp has a fun new configuration. It has been designed so that it will accept all your 1 5/8" designer centers and borders. Now I am sure you are wondering how that is possible. Well it's simple the rubber grid on this block has two unique borders which you can use. Imagine the grid on your 1 5/8" stamper with an extra border added. You will now be able to write in 15 point font around the outside of your existing 1 5/8" borders and centers. Or you can use just the 1 5/8" designer center and omit the 1/5/8" border ( this just gives you a nice symetrical break in your design) and then you can write on the outside border. We would love to show you a project made with this block...or show you the actual block....but our samples don't arrive for another two days. We just couldn't wait for you to hear about this new design. 3. It also works like a traditional JustRite Wooden block and has it's own 2" designer centers and borders. So it can be used like any of our existing blocks. With a 2" designer center and 2" interchangeable border. Or you can use it with a 2" designer center and design your own personal message using our new new fifteen point font. 4. To make purchasing this new item easy, the block will be sold with the New 15 point Times Roman Font included. And will come with a free colorable floral designer center (Get your Copic Markers Ready). 5. This is a great new size for cardmaking!!! Can you say...gotta have it!! Barb tell us where you live. I live in, at this moment cold, snowy, west Michigan! Tell us about your family.I have been married for 29 years and counting! We have two grown daughters and are expecting our first grandchild in a couple weeks! How long have you been stamping? I have been stamping off and on all my life! I have always been involved in some type of craft hobby, but especially love incorporating stamping with paper crafting creations. Where you do you do your stamping? At this time, I have turned a spare bedroom into a makeshift studio...I am taking notes on all the recent studio designs though, because my husband has promised a real studio when we move! Hopefully next year! What is your must have stamping tool?This is a tough one...Lately, I have to have my daubers at hand, and the crop a dile, and...the list could go on and on! H0w long have you been blogging?I have been blogging not quite a year! My family thinks this is especially interesting since the computer and I never really got along! LOL Who are your 3 favorite designers that inspire you? I try to learn from each and every creation I look at...I feel they all have something to gain knowledge from. With that said, in no particular order, I so admire and look up to: Sharon Johnson, Debbie Olson, and Nichole Heady. I'm such a fan and learn so much each time I visit their blogs and view their work. Could you imagine working alongside them, all in the same room? A girl can dream!

Currently who is your favorite Paper Company? Currently, I reach for my new K & Company paper quite a bit, and I especially love Papertreyink's card stock and patterned papers. Tell us besides JustRite, what are you currently addicted to?? Hmmm...probably ribbon, not that I use it a whole lot, I just collect it! And adhesive pearls! What is your favorite paper crafting season and why. We're blessed in Michigan to experience all four seasons, but fall is probably my favorite. I was married in the fall, I love the trees when the colors change, the fruit of the harvest, fall does not last long enough for me! The colors fall produces are gorgeous; all the variances of greens, oranges, yellows, and purples of the season are a terrific palette to choose from when stamping!

More Details on our Apron Tote Project

Tonight we are answering a few questions about the Apron Tote Box we will be teaching at CHA. Stop back in tomorrow to see our next Sneak Peek and to see who this week's guest blogger will be!! What die did you use? AccuCut Dies: GrandeMARK Roller Die Cutting System A7 Apron Invite (3-D) Crease Jumbo The die we used to make the Apron Tote is from AccuCuts - the die needs to be used in conjunction with an AccuCut die cutting system- The die measures 9 1/2" x 11 3/4". For this design we used only the top of the die (it comes with a pocket). The tote stands 7" tall and the box can be adjusted to fit the contents. Our bases vary from 2" wide to 3" wide. The BBQ King Tote holds 2 full bottles of kitchen spices. This is the same die that we used to create our Christmas Cookie Swap book as well as our Recipe Apron. CHA Sneak Peek Day 3 ---What's Cookin'

Today we are revealing our 1 5/8" What's Cookin' Stamp Set!!

The Apron Tote box is created by diecutting two AccuCut Aprons and adhering them to a box that you create using a Scor-it Board. The box is the perfect size to hold lots of treats.

We filled this Apron Tote Box with Barbeque Spices and wrote on the rim of our 1 5/8" stamper with our next introduction!!! 15 point Times New Roman Font. We know everyone loves their 6 point small letter set...but even we admit it is very tiny and hard to see if you have aging eyes. So we are introducing a new size - still with one leg on the back ...and you are gonna love it!! If you thought our stampers were versatile before - just wait to see what else we have planned for Spring!! See you tomorrow.
